Many residents are relieved but want investigations to continue, according to a source.
Former County Sheriff Lee Baca plead guilty to a federal charge of lying to investigators during a FBI probe.
Baca retired after leading the Sheriff’s dept. for 15 years, in 2014 ‘during the probe’ into misconduct and abuse by deputies in the county jail system.
According to sources, up to 17 former sheriff’s Officers have been convicted associated to the probe and Baca could be 18th.
Baca faces up to six months in a Federal jail, should the judge accept the plea, we have not heard if any fines would also be imposed.
Media outlets are reporting that ‘Baca said in a statement that he made a mistake and accepts being held accountable’.
Sources say, Federal authorities will remain vigilant in their oversight of the department.
One resident said:
